Since the beginning of trade, tea has been transported in tea chests. It's rugged wooden and metal banded construction allowed the tea to withstand the rigors of traveling from, and to, the far corners of the world. Tea began it's journey on bullock carts in the Central Highlands to the piers in Colombo, carried on the stevedore's head before being thrown into the cavernous holds of tea clippers and tramp steamers, tossed about during the wild storms as the vessels raced around Cape of Good Hope, manhandled at arrival piers then trucked and railed to its final destination.
